The title "Veteran of Labor" for those who have no awards - what will happen to the status? Are important changes in the law coming?

As a rule, when citizens hear the phrase "Veteran of Labor," they imagine a person who has devoted practically his entire life to work. But according to current legislation, the title can be awarded to those who have at least 20 or 25 years of work experience (for women and men, respectively), and even citizens with half a century of official service can be refused.

And all because the second key condition for granting the status is the presence of state and departmental awards. However, if you look at the question from a different angle, it becomes clear that the possibility of obtaining a title without awards exists in the current legislation, as well as in possible future changes.

Current legislation

Men without state and departmental awards with the required minimum length of service of 40 years and women with 35 years of service may become veterans of labor, if the beginning of their labor activity was during the Great Patriotic War, and at that time they have not yet reached adulthood.

As you understand, there are few such people left. The exception at the federal level for now only applies to them.

But in addition to the federal title, there are also regional statuses of labor veterans. The rules for obtaining them do not always require mandatory awards (for example, this is the case in the Smolensk and Ryazan regions). But the size of the minimum required length of service may differ from the federal one upwards.

Therefore, it is better to ask the local social security office about the possibilities and conditions for obtaining the title. And it is worth remembering that a regional veteran of labor has the right to receive the benefits granted to him only in the territory of the subject that conferred the title.

Now let's return to the title "Veteran of Labor of the Russian Federation". The fact is that a large number of citizens have a long service record, but not always labor awards find their heroes. Once upon a time party and trade union affiliation of an employee played a very important role during awarding, and afterwards the practice of labor awards began to be used very rarely (especially if we talk about common employees).

However, under consideration in the State Duma is the draft law ¹ 1015322-7, which suggests the possibility of awarding the title at the federal level to those persons who have accumulated a long service record, but do not have the necessary awards. We are talking about women with 40 years of service and men with 45.

The bill is currently unmoved, but it has not been rejected. It is possible that it is billet as an additional measure of social support and will begin to move further at the right time. After all, the title of labor veteran is not only recognition of merit, but also a certain list of benefits and compensation.
