HBO announced that the third episode of The Last of Us drew 6.4 million viewers during its premiere. This is 12% more than it was during the premiere of the second episode and 37% more than on the day the pilot aired.
The third episode of The Last of Us was hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as "amazing" and "a contender for best TV episode of 2023". Critics praised the cast: Nick Offerman, who played Bill, was described by IGN as "outstanding", while Murray Bartlett's portrayal of Frank was called "just as brilliant". Vulture described the episode as "an extraordinary hour in the TV series market". Esquire described it as "a moment from the series that we will never forget". CNN also believes that the episode "claims to be one of the best episodes in TV series of 2023" despite the fact that the year has just begun.
According to the latest data, on average, each episode of The Last of Us has so far been watched by more than 21 million people. Only four HBO series have surpassed 15 million views per episode on average.
